The Christmas at the Square committees would like to invite you to join in the Christmas at the Square festival. We have several areas we hope you consider participating in because your involvement will help grow this community festival for all to enjoy.
Help us bring the Christmas spirit to the Owen County Courthouse Square with beautifully decorated window displays and lighting for downtown business fronts and buildings. The Spencer Main Street is hosting a window decorating contest. The contest is open to businesses, churches, organizations, and building owners. We realize that some buildings around the square are vacant and would like to ask building owners to consider offering their building windows as decorating opportunities for others if they do not desire to decorate themselves. We would designate other interested parties to decorate the outside of the vacant building windows with non-harmful materials. Spencer Main Street is also hosting a meter decorating contest. If you are interested in participating please contact Spencer Main Street Promotions Committee Chairman, Danielle Conner.
We would like to welcome businesses and organizations around the square to host open houses during the festival vendor hours to promote downtown Spencer. If you would like to host an open house during all or part of these hours please contact the Spencer Main Street Promotions Committee Chairman, Danielle Conner to have your open house hours and activities publicized.
The Courthouse is always a buzz for Christmas at the Square, if you’d like to help with decorating and set up or with a day of activity we’d love your help. Please contact the Courthouse Chairman, Gwen Tucker to assist.
There will be no parade in 2017 due to downtown construction.
There is something magical about a Christmas parade with all the lights and holiday cheer. The Christmas parade will begin at 5:00pm with line up at the fairgrounds at 4:30pm. Regulations of an entry include Santas – No other Santas or Mrs. Clauses in the parade; Theme – General theme of Christmas, winter, or the holidays; Lights – The parade will start at 5:00p so twinkling lights are encouraged, but not required; Candy – For safety reasons if you want to distribute candy please have walkers to hand candy out instead of throwing from the float. The parade route will proceed from E Cooper St to Main St, turn at E. Franklin, and return to fairgrounds along S Washington St. Please contact Pat Day at (812) 821-2433 to register for the parade entry.
